New Tab in Terminal (macOS)

Press Command + T to open a new tab in the Terminal window.

What it does

The new tab starts a fresh shell. Each tab runs on its own, so a long command in one tab does not block the others. Whether the shell starts in your home folder or in the folder of the tab you came from is a setting of Terminal, under General. A tab can be dragged out of the window to become a window of its own.
