Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 28, 2026

This policy covers the keyshortcut.com website and the KeyShortcut Mac app. The website comes first; the app is covered under KeyShortcut Mac app.

Website (keyshortcut.com)

Everything in this section applies to keyshortcut.com. The Mac app is covered in its own section.

Website Analytics

Website Advertising

The website shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland see Google's consent message, a certified consent tool, before ads use cookies. If you decline our cookie banner, you get non-personalised ads and no analytics.

Votes and Counts

App pages let you say whether the shortcuts work, and may show how often a page was viewed and how often its PDF was downloaded. We keep these as plain numbers per page and per shortcut. A number is shown only when it is large enough.

To count one vote per person, a vote stores a scrambled form (a salted hash) of your network address. The address itself is not stored, the hash cannot be read back by us as an address, and it is deleted after 90 days. Views and downloads store no information about you.

Your own votes are also remembered in your browser (local storage), so the buttons show them when you come back. This uses no cookie and works without the cookie banner. Clearing the site data in your browser removes it.

The website is free. It is paid for by ads, sponsors, affiliate links and the KeyShortcut Mac app. Some "Get" buttons on app pages are affiliate links, and each one is labeled. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The seller may set a cookie to credit the sale to us. Sponsored placements are labeled "Sponsored". Sponsors and affiliate programs do not change which shortcuts we list or how we describe them.

Payments for sponsorships and for voluntary support of the site are handled by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers. Stripe's privacy policy applies to the payment.

The PDF bundle of cheat sheets is sold and delivered by the seller named on its checkout page. The seller takes the payment and sends the file; its privacy policy applies. We receive the buyer's email address with the order and use it only for that order.

Website Cookies and Your Choices

To change your choice, use the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of any page on keyshortcut.com, or clear this site's data in your browser. If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, the same link reopens Google's consent message. You have the rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection under the GDPR, and the rights to know, delete and opt out under the CCPA. To use them, contact us at the address below.

KeyShortcut Mac app

The Mac app is built with privacy as a core principle and collects no personal data. Everything in this section applies to the app only.

Data Collection

The Mac app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The app has no analytics frameworks, no tracking pixels, no third-party SDKs, and no advertising.

Network Access

KeyShortcut connects to Supabase (our database provider) to download shortcut data. These requests are read-only and keep your shortcut library up to date. No personal data, device identifiers, or usage information is sent. Without a connection, the app uses its built-in and cached shortcuts.

The app also registers with Apple's MetricKit framework (see Apple Diagnostics below). It makes no other network requests.

Local Storage

KeyShortcut stores your preferences locally on your device using macOS UserDefaults within the app sandbox. This includes:

This data never leaves your Mac. Uninstalling KeyShortcut removes all associated data.

Accessibility Permission

KeyShortcut does not request macOS Accessibility permission and does not monitor your keystrokes.

Active App Detection (optional, off by default) reads only the bundle identifier of the frontmost app, using standard macOS APIs, to show relevant shortcuts. No window content is accessed.

Apple Diagnostics

The app registers with Apple's MetricKit framework. The released app does not read, store or send what it receives. This data is processed by Apple, not by us. You can control this in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

Children's Privacy

KeyShortcut does not collect any data from any user, including children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date.
