Edit Mode in Blender (macOS)

Press Tab to switch between Object Mode and Edit Mode.

What it does

Object Mode works on whole objects: their place, rotation and size in the scene. Edit Mode opens the selected object so you can work on its vertices, edges and faces. Most modeling tools, such as extrude, bevel and loop cut, exist only in Edit Mode. The header of the viewport shows which mode is active.
